Substation

A substation is part of a power generation, transmission and distribution system. Substations convert voltage from high to low or vice versa, or perform any of several other important functions. Electricity can flow between a generating station and a consumer through several substations with different voltage levels. A substation may include transformers to change voltage levels between high transmission voltages and lower distribution voltages, or by connecting two different transmission voltages.
